Before her untimely death in March 2023, Mrs Anne Fuller had completed a calendar of British and Irish material in the remaining registers for the pontificate of Leo X (1513–1521). What is now Volume XXI in this long-running series was prepared for publication by Dr Alan Macquarrie to whom the Irish Manuscripts Commission is extremely grateful.
Containing 638 letters to correspondents in Britain and Ireland from the Roman Curia these letters bring to light a great deal of biographical and topographical information illustrating the ecclesiastical landscape of the British and Irish islands. They include provisions to a number of bishoprics and archbishoprics including Ardee, Ardagh, Armagh, Carlisle, Derry and Worcester; and to monasteries including Canon Island, Dryburgh, Kelso and Scone. Large numbers of obscure parochial clergy, rectors, vicars and chaplains are also mentioned. These are the working documents of the Church about the time of the publication of Luther’s 95 Theses.
This volume follows on from Volume XX which is available here.
