Description
The island-wide Civil Survey was carried out between 1654 and 1656 to determine and record the possessions of the proprietors of the lands and tenures and titles of their respective estates. This information was used by the Commonwealth Government to pay its officers and soldiers with allotments of Irish land in lieu of monies they were owed for fighting in Ireland for over a decade. This volume covers parishes and baronies in county Limerick along with a section of Clanmaurice barony in county Kerry. It includes indexes of the occupiers of the city of Limerick, streets and premises in the city of Limerick, and church lands and glebes in county Limerick. It remains a useful resource for historians of the period as well as for genealogists.
