Collection Description | The Society of St Vincent de Paul is a Christian voluntary organisation founded in Paris in 1833. It
arrived in Ireland in 1845. Local units are called conferences. Each conference keeps its own
papers. The head office contains a number of published works on the Society including the 'Manual
of the Society of St Vincent de Paul', the 'Reports of the Council of Ireland' and the 'Bulletin of the
Society of St Vincent de Paul'. The 'Manual', translated from the original French, is the member's
handbook, containing the rules, etc., of the Society. The 'Bulletin' is a monthly magazine which
informs members of the activities of other conferences around the world. The 'Reports of the Council
of Ireland' are annual reports which summarise the past year's work of the Society in Ireland. |
