Description | Crown Books at Assizes, County Mayo: Summer Assizes, County Mayo, 1884, John Hughes stood on the charge that 'he on the 24th March 1884 feloniously did by force take away and detain one Ellen Cummins against her will with intent her the said Ellen Cummins to marry against the peace.' He pleaded guilty. Patrick Hughes, Mary Hughes and Michael Joyce were also accused and pleaded guilty of the crime of detaining Ellen Cummins with the intent to cause her to marry John Hughes. |
