Royal University of Ireland, Senate Minute Books, 1880-1908.

Includes names and results of those who sat the matriculation and university examinations, for example: the Minutes for Thursday, 24 July 1902, gives the results of many women who passed the First University examinations, with details of where they studied for these examinations. Mary J. Brown, for example, studied for this examination in Ursuline Convent, Waterford, while the candidate Anna T. Casserley received private tuition.

The Minutes, 12 February 1904, record the proposal that a gratuity of £5 be given to Mrs Sarah Murphy who was a charwoman in the service of the university for 9 years and had been obliged to resign owing to ill health.

The minutes, 12 May 1904 state on the same subject, 'The Standing Committee reported that matters had come to the knowledge of the Secretaries after the last meeting of the Senate in consequence of which they had withheld the payment of the £5 voted as a gratuity to Mrs Sarah Murphy, charwoman and the Committee now recommend that the vote be rescinded. Approved.' There are 5 volumes and 1 supplementary volume.

Matriculation Records in bound volumes of the Royal University of Ireland, 1881-1908. These are application forms completed by the students. For example:

In 1888 the application of Mary Lydia Bresland indicates that she was born on 20 May 1868 in Coleraine, that she resides in Ballymena, Antrim, her father, James Bresland is a teacher in the Model School, Ballymena, in the past twelve months she was educated in Ballymena Model School and by private tuition. She states that she is not a student of any college or any other University, out of a group of languages she chooses to be examined in French and she wishes to be examined in a centre in Belfast, form dated 28th April 1888.
