Large volume, minute book, Central Midwives Board typed, February 1938 to November 1945. For 1953 there is, for example, information on finances, examinations, complaints against midwives, reports of hearings in cases of complaints, allegations of midwives deliberately causing miscarriages, allegations of midwives conspiring to abandon children. Note in minutes of 31 March 1938 'To all midwives: owing to a serious complaint made recently to the Central Midwives Board by a doctor, all midwives are reminded that it is their duty to co-operate fully with the doctor and that they must not say anything which may undermine the patient's confidence in him'. Some dissension over this note.
