Description

A photocopied typescript of the Journal of Angel Anna Slacke, 1785-1796, c.116 pages. Original in private hands. Slacke, born in 1748, begins her diary 'I have long wavered in my mind, whither I should keep a written testimony, of the long sparing mercies of the Holy Invisible God whose dealings towards me have been inexpressibly tender. Long has he born [sic] with my manners in the wilderness and Glory to His exalted name. I am yet spared'.

'In my youth I passed mush of my time with the Countess of Roscommon who was my cousin and Godmother. She indulged me as far with company and amusements as her age, and my youth permitted. I had also an uncle and aunt with whom I lived some years. They were the most moral of any with whom we are acquainted'.
