Collection Description | Sir Robert Hart, (1835-1911), 1st Baronet, served as Inspector General of the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs from 1863 to 1908. Description | These are the papers of Sir Robert Hart, 1st Baronet, Inspector General of the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs from 1863 to 1908. Among these papers are one volume containing a diary kept by Hart's wife (Hester Jane nee Bredon) which includes notes made on a journey from Peking to Shangai and a detailed commentary on Peking, its environs and its people, their dress, form of recreation, hobbies, etc. |
