Description | The original title of the Association was the Irish Association of Women Graduates and Candidate Graduates (IAWG and CG) with branches formed in Belfast, Londonderry, Cork and Galway. It was founded at a meeting in Dublin on 14 March 1902 and its main object was to secure for women the advantages of a University education in Ireland as they were being offered to men. Hanna Sheehy Skeffington was one of the founders of the Association. The IAWG and CG was affiliated to the Federation of University Women (FUW), London in 1909. In 1914 the Association divided itself into three associations, one for each university, Dublin University, National University of Ireland, and Queen's University, Belfast. The three associations reformed again in 1925 to form the Irish federation of University Women. In the same year the Irish FUW was affiliated to the international FUW.
