Description

Prison diaries of Hannah Moynihan, 1923, prisoner no. 209, Tralee, Kilmainham and North Dublin Union jails.
'14 March 1923. Tralee Jail. It is hard to realise that we are in Tralee Jail. It was clever of General O'Daly to inspire us with such false confidence'. On the first page of the diary there is a reference to Ballyseedy. Hannah knew Jim Walsh, one of the victims, very well. The diary itself finishes on Monday 30 July 1923. 'It seems strange, but we shall be sad when release comes. The spirit here is splendid, and we have had great fun. I am tired of keeping this scrappy diary'.
