The major part of the present collection comprises of 122 letters home to Ireland from Michael and Denis Hurley in the United States over a period of 77 years from 1871 to 1938. The collection includes letters to the Hurley brothers' parents and siblings and includes 2 items related to the death of their mother, Mrs Mary Hurley, including a list of expenses incurred at her wake and funeral (U170/133). The collection also contains 2 letters from a Marie Collins in Connecticut, United States, to the Hurleys in Clonakilty (U170/135-136). The collection is a valuable source for the history of Irish emigration to the United States. 141 items.
