Diana Eason was the grand-daughter of Lord and Lady Clanmorris of Bangor Castle and her earliest recollection dates from 1917: 'Bangor with its huge house and vast park seemed like a fairy land to a five year old. Many paths wound their way through the park to various points on the boundary. My favourite, when I could escape from Nanny, led to the walled kitchen garden a quarter of a mile away. ...The landau was shiney black with coronets on its doors...In it, Granny (looking rather like Queen Victoria) and I used to go visiting.' She also describes Bangor Castle laundry: 'There were girls whose faces were red and moist, either pushing sheets through big iron wringers which were manipulated by hand, or sizzling flat irons over shirts. Some of the older ones were allowed to use 'goffering irons' to crimp the frills on blouses and shirts'. A photocopied extract from the 'Downpatrick Recorder' on the marriage of Miss Matilda Catherine Ward, only child and heiress of Robert Edward Ward of Bangor Castle to Lord Clanmorris, 29 June 1878. The latter was written by Edward from Dresden and notes, 'Lady E. Alexander and Miss Heyland are come here to spend the Winter.' Photocopied letter to Colonel Percival Price, Saintfield from his cousin, Hazel Ward, concerning family matters, 1832. Photocopied letter to Mary Anne regarding the accommodation for visitors at Bangor Castle which notes, 'I rather rejoice in Louisa's escape - as I doubt his rationality, and as he has I suppose his low as well as his high seasons, they two getting together and swaddling at those seasons would have made themselves bit to be shut up', no date.
