D/23/1-13 Letters to the 2nd Earl of Rosse from Catherine Maria, Countess of Charleville, Tullamore, King's County regarding the political activities and prospects for her 3 sons, county politics and elections and the Catholic question and reform, as well as spiritual reflections, 1829-1831.

For example, 'I can never believe the priests will suffer their penitents to shake off their political subserviency, or that Protestants shall ever meet with fair play from any real Catholic. Deists and philosophers may not act against us as religionists, but they will as a corps. However, better anything than bloodshed and a degraded population incensed continually by misrepresentation against us', [?early 1829]. In another letter she notes, 'I have all my life thought more freely on politics than my Lord. Indeed, excepting my strong wish to support pure and simple Protestant religion in these kingdoms, we have seldom agreed on them in our equally sincere zeal for Ireland', 16 November 1831.
