Description

There is a detailed calendar of Letters of His Eminence Card Logue Addressed to Most Rev. W.J. Walsh, Archbishop of Dublin available in the archives. The papers include, for example:

19 December 1898 'With regard to the Sisters of Mercy in Drogheda, as they are in the diocese of Meath, I know nothing of how they are circumstanced in their schools. Speaking from general principles, however, think I should be slow in relaxing the rule regarding the age at which boys are bound to leave their schools. If you relax the rule in their case, you must relax it in the case of others. Now the nuns are a little greedy sometimes, and they have influence over the boys and the boys parents, and the result would likely be that they would ruin the male schools by keeping the boys away from them till their primary education is nearly complete'.
