Collection Description | The Society of St Vincent de Paul established its Carlow Conference in May 1851. The Society was established in Paris in 1833, and its first Irish branch was formed in Dublin in 1844. The chief aim of the Society is the alleviation of poverty. (delanyarchive.ie) |

Description | Most items in the collection are minute books (1851-1877) that refer to members of the Conference and persons to whom aid was distributed. The minutes are generally very short. One minute book (P20/009) also contains minutes of a Relief Fund Committee (January-February 1862) that served Carlow town. Also present are a members’ roll book (1851-1894; catalogued as P20/001) and an accounts ledger (1856-1857; catalogued as P20/004). |
