Collection DescriptionDr Edward Nolan (c 1793-1837) was born in Tullow, Co. Carlow to James Nolan and Mary née Moore. He was educated at Carlow College, St Patrick’s (1804-11), and thereafter at Maynooth, and was ordained in 1819. He was on the staff of Carlow College (1819-1834) and was appointed Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin in 1834, succeeding Dr James Doyle. Dr Nolan caught typhus while on visitation in his diocese and died on 14 October 1837. (delanyarchives.ie)
