Collection DescriptionThe Brigidine Sisters were established on 1 February 1807 by Dr Daniel Delany (1747-1814), Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin, its earliest convent being at Tullow. The primary mission of the Sisters was education and they established primary, boarding and day schools at various locations.

Description

Convents of the Irish-United Kingdom (UK) Province, Brigidine Sisters, namely, Abbeyleix, Denbigh, Goresbridge, Mountrath, Tullow and Windsor, and smaller houses; Provincial administration.The extant material varies between convents but typically includes correspondence, Annals, school records, records relating to community members and meetings, financial and property records, and the charism and history of the congregation. Province-level material includes circular letters, records arising from Provincial assemblies, publications, and rules and Constitutions.
