Description | 8 February 1856, M. F.X. Julia Lynch, Carmel, Loughrea, to Archbishop Cullen, asking him to see Bishop Whelan, who will explain their situation. She fears publicity as locals resent the closing of their successful school for young ladies. Their poor school is declining since the Sisters of Mercy came. Their funds are low and debts heavy. They depend on some nuns' dowries. She begs leave to reopen the school. |
