Collection DescriptionLehman, Mahrea Cramer, 1896-1991, American artist . MCL was born in Licking County, Ohio. A member of the AWS, Cramer studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and, subsequently, in Paris. She was a noted book- illustrator. She lived with her nephew Paul in Germany for a period. Her husband, also called Paul, whom she met at art school in Chicago, was an artist working in oils. He died in Chicago. MLC exhibited with the Chicago Painters and Sculptors. The Crawford Gallery has two of her works including gypsy caravans outside Cork 1964. She was the subject of two books: The Life and Times of Mahrea Cramer Lehman by Howard Ross (1998) and Mahrea, Her Autobiography: The Life and Times of Mahrea Cramer Lehman (1896-1991), Or Anybody Out There Need a Role Model.
