1796.05/30/1865 Letter from Revd. D Dilworth, Glanworth, to Bishop W Keane. He heard recently that a parishioner bought a pew from a broken down farmer, who was emigrating to America. The purchaser sold it to Mrs Noonan, Fermoy parish. He sent for both of them. Mrs Noonan said she bought the pew and would not give it up. She arrived and took possession. As a result he alluded to the matter publicly on the following Sunday. The owner of the pew had no right to sell it, it belongs to the parish and reverts to it. Mrs Noonan has appealed to the Bishop and has disregarded the writer's admonition. He asks the Bishop to tell her to desist 'until you have time to examine her claim', 4 February 1865.
