1796.05/21/1862 Letter from Revd. D Mahony, Coachford, to Bishop W Keane relating to regulation made relating to the `Elopers'. `There is a considerable difference of opinion here as to the terms of the regulation made by your Lordship at the close of the last season's Conferences in regard to `Elopers'. Different opinions lead to differences in dealings with the scandal. This is known to the people and puts the clergy `in invidious contrast with one another in consequence'. They had another instance of the scandal recently, in a nearby parish. He believes that the only way of reducing the number is to have a uniform discipline observed throughout the deanery, 22 January 1862.
