Description | This collection contains family papers of the Uptons of Coolatore estate in County Westmeath and Glyde Court and the Cooley estate in County Louth, and deals mainly with financial affairs. It includes a section devoted to Margaret Upton, wife of Shuckburgh Whitney, who, following the death of her husband, twelve years after their marriage, administered the Coolatore estate [S6/14/8-26]. This section includes details of her marriage settlement, 1795, as well as accounts, business correspondence, and Margaret Upton's will, drawn up 25 August 1824; also details of the trust for her children, Henry, Isabella, Elizabeth, Lewis and Arthur [S6/14/27-30], and of the death of Isabella in 1832 {S6/14/38-40]; details of the marriage settlement of Arthur Upton and Alice Plunkett Dunne, 1869, with copy of wills of Alice Kavanagh, 1854, and Alice O'Connor, 1865 [S6/14/82] and of the marriage settlement and administration of trust funds of Elizabeth Beatrice Upton and Theophilus Edward Lucas Clements, 1829 [S6/14/92 - 105]. |
