Description | This collection includes papers, mostly 19th-century, of the Caulfield family of Drumcairn, County Tyrone, relating mainly to legal affairs and estate management. Included are details of the marriage settlement of James Alfred Caulfield to Annette Handcock, 1858 [S6/12/82-96]; also of Annette Caulfield's correspondence on financial affairs, 'Since our marriage I have been led on with the hope that the property would at all events afford us a couple of hundred a year. Instead it has never once covered the expenses upon it'. [S6/12/139-156]; also correspondence relating to the marriage settlement of William and Ida Young (S/6/12/18-186]; correspondence about the financial affairs of Georgina Geale [S6/12/218-219], and domestic affairs, 1836-92, including a letter from Annette Caulfield about Edward Caulfield's intention to marry a Miss Litton, with whom she would get £5,000: 'he considered he would be benefiting his children by the marriage', [S6/12/220-227]. Also copies of wills, deeds, leases etc, with a number of references to women [S6/12/190-191, 228-267]. |
