Description | 1796.06/28/1864 Letter from Sister M J Croke, Mercy Convent, Charleville, to Bishop W Keane. She is in receipt of another letter about a foreign foundation to the South of New Zealand. The communication came to Carlow, who passed it on, because they have just sent more Sisters to the Foundation in Auckland. `The call for the Sisters of Mercy is extremely pressing'. The place is Canterberry, the Bishop Dr Pampallier. The convent will not be finished for 12 months. It is being got up by an English gentleman who gave 1 acre for it. She would wish to answer the call., with the Bishop's permission, and would like to be one of the Sisters to go. There is much against her doing so, 19 April 1864. |
