Description

A printed 'Sonnet' composed in 1869, has been pasted onto thae same page and sheets of paper have been pasted onto the flyleaves obscuring text. There are very small ammendments to the text as published including the note that '4 years' was the length of time referred to in the last line of the sonnet written at Ballinamona, Co Wicklow (p. 116). There are botanical specimens between some pages.

Manuscript poetry has been added:

The Pleasant Places of the Long Ago, written 1864. Begins 'Up Glencullen's hillside ...'

Address to the Irishman in the Papal army. Rome 1866-7. Begins '"Cead millia Falthe to Eternal Rome! ...'

Lays of Darrynane. 1865. begins 'Threee sisters strayed by the sounding sea ... '

Passing away: on the death of Susan Mary Cuffe who died on the 26 Feb 1863 aged 14 years. Begins 'Passing away upon a couch of pain ...'

A Song composed at Rome March 1 1867 on hearing L M C play an improvisation. begins 'While list'ning to those charmed sounds ...'

To a bunch of crimson roses. Begins 'The brathings of the roses ...'

Gabriel's Eyes. 1866. begins 'Oh bright young eyes, frank fearless eyes ...'
