Description

The Association was founded 1960 by members of University College, Dublin staff. Its records contain correspondence and related documentation and files on a variety of topics, including 'Women members of staff' and 'Parity in salaries in University College, Dublin'; also executive committee meeting minutes, membership lists, reports on committees and sub-committees, financial records and other material. Matters raised include conditions of employment for women members of the academic staff and of married women members of the non-statutory academic staff (ASA 1/7]; consideration of the possibility of setting up a staff nursery at University College, Dublin [ASA/18]; unmarried women in part-time academic positions [ASA 1/11]; employment of married women [ASA 1/12]; maternity leave and equal pay [ASA 1/13-14]; widows' pensions [ASA 1/15]; memorandum on the proposed supplementary conditions of the contract applicable to women members of the academic staff, 1972 [ASA 1/18]. Also correspondence about a new form of contract to be offered to non-statutory staff and women members of the non-statutory staff, and ballot sheets sent to members requesting comments on the draft contract, with replies, February 1972 [ASA 1/26-27].

ASA 1/30 deals with women members of staff, 1970-1974, and includes a number of items, among them a petition to J D MacHale from a number of women members of the academic staff about proposed conditions of employment for women, April 1971, correspondence on conditions of employment for women members of non-statutory staff, statement providing Irish Federation of University Teachers members' views on conditions of employment of married women, 1972, and text of a speech by Mme F. Giroud, French Secretary of State for Women's Affairs.
