Description | Includes a few items relating to women, including correspondence between O'Curry and his landlord, Mrs William Hodgens [LA38/15]; receipts for school fees for Miss [H] Curry from Loreto, North Great George's Street and Loreto Abbey, Rathfarnham [LA38/18]; also letter from E Clibborn, Plymouth to O'Curry, telling of his courtship and recent marriage, and requesting that O'Curry 'and other gents of the same school . . . behave to her as she deserves . . . For though she is no antiquarian, no this, no that etc, she is everything to me' [LA38/28]. In relation to O'Curry's researches into Irish folklore, a letter is included from Michael O'Reilly, Ennistymon, enclosing a song, 'as you seemed so desirous of having Comynes praise of his penis, I send you A McCurtin's praise of the female vagina' [LA38/23]; also letter from Miss [Quinn], Tallaght, County Dublin, thanking O'Curry for the Irish mottoes and enclosing 5 in English for translation into Irish [LA38/29]; D H Kelly of County Roscommon informs O'Curry that the widow of the late Mr Close, Queen's Counsel, has a collection of unpublished Irish melodies [LA38/51], and [J Dillon], Brakenstown, tells of an old woman in his area who can cure 'fellon', 'sore breast' in women and croup [LA38/139]. |
