Collection Description | Under the Municipal Corporations (Ireland) Act 1840, Limerick Corporation was reformed.
The City Council now
consisted of 40 elected councillors from 5 electoral wards The franchise was extended to
include all adult males
that owned property valued at £10 per annum. Martin Honan, a Catholic merchant was
elected as the first mayor of
the reformed corporation. The minute books document the decisions, correspondence and
activities of the City
Council from this period.
