Collection Description | A Ballina businessman, Jackie Clarke (1927-2000) was a dedicated collector of Irish historical material. In 2005 his widow, Mrs. Anne Clarke (1940-2015), gifted the collection to the people of Ireland in perpetuity, on condition that it remained in the town of Ballina. This donation was placed in the guardianship of Mayo County Council. The Jackie Clarke Collection is the most important private collection of Irish history material in public hands, comprising over 100,000 items spanning 400 years. |
