Description

'The Waters of Providence':

A film about the Providence Woollen Mills at Foxford, County Mayo. Sister Mary Arsenius of the Irish Sisters of Charity founded the mill the year after she arrived in Foxford, hoping they would alleviate poverty in the area. She ran the Foxford mill until her death in 1932. The central part of the film shows the making of the factory's products. The last section shows the couple praying at the grave of Sister Arsenius, annual three day retreat established by a Jesuit in 1915, the first in Ireland. A young couple are seen examining a partly built house which represents their not having to emigrate.
