Description | This collection consists entirely of printed material relating to the Irish labour and trade union movements. It provides an insight into Irish society from the late 19th to the mid-20th century, with particular reference to workers and the poor, and much of the material therefore is of direct or indirect relevance to women. For example, Trade Union Information, a monthly newsletter issued by the ITUC, 1950-70, covers topics such as working conditions, wage increases and social security, as well as women's earnings; also references to Jennie Dowdall, on platform at 1959 ITUC conference, photographs of Betty Sinclair, secretary, Belfast and District Trades Council, and Rosie Hackett; Labour Party policy statement (1979) on the status of women; copies of Labour News',1934-38, 1966; material relating to the Irish White Cross Society and 'Report of the enquiry into the housing of the working classes of the City of Dublin, 1939-43'. |
