Description | Includes letters from Andrews to his mother, Polly Andrews, from prison and while on IRA business, 1921-1924, and correspondence to Polly Andrews from family and friends; also letters from Andrews to his wife Mary written while on business trips to the USSR, Sweden, Denmark and Germany; on a visit in 1956 to the USSR, 'the rule here seems to be married women don't work but all single women do and at the heaviest work'. Other correspondents include Nance McSweeney, an old friend from Civil War days who offered congratulations on the publication of his autobiography, Hildegard Dill-Klasmann, Mary Hewetson, Máire Nic Níallais, Ellen O'Donoghue, Phyllis bean Uí Ceallaigh, enclosing two letters from Máire Comerford, Marigold Johnson (British Irish Association), Madeline Mottuel (on family, literary and political matters), Gladys Maguire, Sighle O'Donoghue (nee Humphreys) and Jennifer FitzGerald (on her grandmother Mabel Fitzgerald). |
