Description

Minute book 1914-1922 (in English). Many of the committee and members are women. Activities include lectures in Irish history, retreats and ceilidhs, and 'In view of the widespread interest in the revival of the Irish language' the Guild urged the Church of Ireland to provide services in Irish, and to teach Irish Church children the language in primary and secondary schools proposing that it 'be included in ...Church of Ireland teachers in training', (May 1920). 'A letter...from the President [Bishop of Tuam] expressing his disagreement with the terms of the draft resolution regarding the Easter Week Rising, and tendering his resignation on the grounds of this difference between himself and the Committee'. He was begged to withdraw his resignation, as the Committee deplored the..'stirring up again of bitter party feeling', (June 1916).

The Guild regretted being 'constantly identified with the reactionary forces in this country' (January 1920), and had petitioned for a reprieve for Kevin Barry.

'A letter...from the Irishwomen's International League asking that the Guild should intercede with the English Archbishops regarding reprisals and the Belfast boycott', the Guild did not in view of the recent action of English bishops think it of any use to take any action, (April 1921). 5 volumes and 1 box of material.
