Description | 1988 102 a-b2 b1-2 letter dated 2 January 1851 signed E.I.F., gives a description of a servant's ball, 'High life below stairs'. 'the cook, a man cook, opened the ball and Mary during the evening got in with a very pleasant party in the 'scullery' and had great fun and a very nice man paid her great attention and somebody told him they would tell his wife!!! And Mary talked to everyone there by her own account, and every place was covered with holly and ivy Arche's and harps and crowns and Erin go Bragh in large letters on a sheet and the musicians were seated on the dresser and there were three supper tables and all sorts of beef and fowl'. |

Note | Letters to Miss Martha Moorehead. Martha Moorehead later became Martha Power and was grandmother to Mrs Hubert (Susan) Butler and Tyrone Guthrie, late of Annamakerig. A number of the original letters are in the possession of the museum and this letter is among them, but the bulk have been deposited in Trinity College Dublin library. Photocopies of the letters that have been transferred are available in Monaghan Museum. A specific reference number precedes a description of the document.This is needed to call up the document.
