Description

Minutes, with accounts, of the Prison Gate Mission, Dublin, founded 1876 to provide support for women, without distinction of religion, leaving prison and to provide shelter for young unemployed women from the country.

In 1888 there were 99 women in the Mission, '51 of whom slept in the dormitories', built to keep the younger women from going out in the evening. Later established a creche and ran a laundry, contracted to the hospitals. Assisted in emigration. Reference to Reformatory and Refuge Union (England and Scotland). Thieving from, and financial difficulties of, the institution also mentioned.

Several women sat on the committee from the outset, and in 1908 a Dr Kathleen Maguire undertook to be Medical Inspector of the Mission. 2 volumes of material.
