Responsible for domestic arrangements and appointments, laundry and seamstress work, advising on individual girls. 8 inmates in 1905. Enclosure of 1909 letter entreating the Home to allow girls to keep their babies until weaned; Ladies' Committee minute book, 1982-1986; accounts, 1768-1975; reports, 1921-1974; papers, 1921-1975; sermons and hymns, including 'A hymn on the expulsion of a Magdalen'; copies of JDH Widdess' 'The Magdalen Asylum, Dublin, 1766-1966'. Founded in 1765, in connection with the Church of Ireland, as a refuge for fallen women, by Lady Arabella Denny, 1707-1792, daughter of the 1st earl of Kerry, of Peafield Cliff (later Lisaskea), Blackrock, earlier benefactress and reformer of the Foundling Hospital, St James' Street.
The material contains references to other institutions such as Fortfield Home, the Nursery Rescue, and Protestant Children's Aid Society, and to the legal position of illegitimate children. 33 volumes and 1 box of material.
