Collection | Papers of Fr Matthew Russell, SJ (1834 - 1912) |
Reference | J27/ |
Description | 55 29 May [ ]. Letter from Mary C. Ferguson (wife of Sir Samuel Ferguson), 20 North Great Georges Street, Dublin, to Fr Russell concerning a poem by Sir Samuel Ferguson. Remarks that her husband did not wish it to be published until the end of the century although three stanzas were published at the request of Judge O'Hagan '...when he was about to republish a book from his charming contributions to the "Irish Monthly" on The Poetry of Sir Samuel Ferguson.. .as there was no reason why these verses should be suppressed.' Continues that she would have been pleased to let Fr Russell publish the poem 'But I should not like to contravene my husband's wishes and there is personal matter in the poem which in my judgement as well as in his had perhaps better not see the light just yet'.
