The 24 bound, handwritten volumes of minutes include lists of patients admitted to the hospital and contain references to female staff, such as cooks and nurses, who were employed at the hospital. For example, it was reported that 'one of the Staff Nurses in Charters Wing was about to leave, and suggested that only one Staff Nurse should be employed to take charge of the whole wing', 22 September 1877. Also included are notes on specific cases, for instance, a woman 'was granted permission to remain at the Convalescent Home, another month (her two months having expired) on payment of 7/- weekly', 23 March 1878. In addition, the minutes refer to the hospital's Ladies' Committee, for instance, it was noted that, 'The Ladies' Committee having suggested that Miss Freeman might remain a few days after Mrs Sheils comes into office as Matron to make needful arrangements for handing over her charge, and your Committee arranged accordingly', 15 June 1878.
