Description | Belfast Royal Hospital Annual Reports: 1818-1831 1832-1843 1844-1858 1851-1860 1859-1864 1861-1871 1865-1870 1871-1876 1877-1880 1881-1884 1885-1888 1889-1891 1892-1894 1895-1897 1898-1900 1901-1903 1904-1906 1907-1909 1910-1912 1913-1915 1916-1918 1919-1921 1922-1924 1925-1927 1928-1930 1931-1933 1934-1936 1937-1939 1940-1942 1943-1945 (2 volumes) 1946-1947 These 33 volumes of bound, printed annual reports include financial statements, with a list of names and addresses of subscribers to the hospital which include the names of many women, and medical and surgical reports with tables of cases attended during the year and an annual report. For example, the annual report of 1851 notes that two pregnancies were surgical cases in the period 1 April 1850-1 September 1851. The annual report of 1858 includes a table of occupations for the 885 patients who were admitted as surgical cases to the hospital in the period 1857-1858, noting that 57 were 'Married women, occupation undefined'; 19 were 'Needlewoman' and 163 were 'Mill-workers'. The annual report of 1912 lists several women on its Board of Management, including Miss Eliza Riddel, the Marchioness of Londonderry, Miss Eliza Bruce and Mrs King-Kerr and lists numerous women as members of the Nursing Committee, the House Committee, the Consumptive Committee, the General Committee and the Ladies' Committee of the Throne Convalescent Hospital, 1912. In addition, mention is made of the hospital's matron and nursing staff who 'deserve the greatest praise for the way they all carried out their respective duties', 1912. The tables compiled for the year 1911-1912, list 2 cases of pregnancy requiring surgery and list the various operations which were carried out and numbers of deaths for specific complaints, including gynaecological cases, 1912. |
