Description

1 printed broadsheet ballad entitled 'A New Song on the Hiring Fairs of Ulster', Dublin, c.1860. This broadsheet includes the following reference to women:
'The kitchen maid can work or play
At certain times when not engage'd
Some times she puts the hens to lay
And more times rocks the cradle
Some times she puts the geese to hatch, And other times she is cleaving fleas
She'll dress the beds both soft and flat
And sleep til day is breaking'.
