Description | Report [3 pages printed] of the Committee to enquire into the complaint of Thomas Adderley, esquire, owner of the Spinning School. That the children employed in the school were being given light rations of bread, and were consequently not able to do the work. Deponents include the Master, some children, and Isabella Craig, 'employed four years as Mistress of the Spinning School' who, on mentioning her observations had been told 'that she need not complain of ill Treatment given to Persons who were sold for Slaves, and threatened her...if she mentioned these matters...that a Committal to Bridewell, or being confined to Bedlam, would be the Consequence of her speaking her Mind freely on these Matters...' |
