Collection DescriptionDr Francis Haly (c 1783/1787-1855) was a native of Doonane, Co. Laois. His date of birth is uncertain but has been estimated to be 1783-1787. Dr Haly entered Maynooth to study for the priesthood in 1807 and was ordained in 1812. He served as curate, Rathvilly, Co. Carlow (1812-1813), and was parish priest in Mountrath, Co. Laois (1813-1822) and Kilcock, Co. Kildare (1822- 1837). He served as Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin from 1838 until his death on 19 August 1855. He is buried in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow. (delanyarchive.ie)
