Collection DescriptionDr Francis Haly (c 1783/1787-1855) was a native of Doonane, Co. Laois. His date of birth is uncertain but has been estimated to be 1783-1787. Dr Haly entered Maynooth to study for the priesthood in 1807 and was ordained in 1812. He served as curate, Rathvilly, Co. Carlow (1812-1813), and was parish priest in Mountrath, Co. Laois (1813-1822) and Kilcock, Co. Kildare (1822- 1837). He served as Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin from 1838 until his death on 19 August 1855. He is buried in the Cathedral of the Assumption, Carlow. (

08: Presentation Convent to Bishop Francis Haly. Manuscript list of 'children educated in the Presentation Convent, Carlow and sent as teachers to other schools since 1815'. Names of 55 girls listed, 43 with locality of school, and 33 with amount of salary. 13 others are entered as having been placed as governesses and a further 17 as dress makers. Notes on amount annually earned by pupils of this school.
