Description | Correspondence between Caroline Hamilton, Lady Mary Tighe and other members of the Tighe family. Includes letters to and from the Ladies of Llangollen (Eleanor Butler and Sarah Ponsonby), 1787, and one from Anna Seward, authoress, 'The Swan of Lichfield' , and one about their flight: 'Mr and Mrs Tighe went to the Castle to Plead for Miss B - to no purpose' [May, 1778] signed M F [Lady Betty Fownes]. From Lady Darnley to Lord Wicklow, fretting about her son, travelling through a storm: 'I really think I do not much give way to the particularity of a Parent when I say there is something uncommon in his conduct & behaviour-', 1787. Angry letter from mother A M Shipley to daughter Elizabeth responding to accusations and upbraiding her for uneconomic ways, 1794. Correspondence also from C T [Caroline Tighe ?] to Mary Tighe on flirting, fighting and friends. Some of the Wicklow papers correspondence has been transcribed in Special List 368. |
