Description | Typescript copy of an account of a tour in France and Germany by Jane Hamilton, nee Rowan, June-December 1726. (See Ms1703). Detailed record of the journey with prices paid at toll-booths and for meals and hotel rooms, and of her business affairs in London - 'Nothing can persuade Mrs Cleland that my Mother's fortune is not my chief support'; descriptions of her encounters, entertainments, including an opera, visits to houses and palaces, and sights, particularly people. The volume also contains a typescript description of a tour to the Lakes of Killarney, 1760, in a series of letters to the Earls of Cork and of Pomfret and Lord Southwell. No author given. |
