Collection DescriptionDr Michael Corcoran (c 1758-1819) was a native of Co. Laois and educated in Paris. He served as parish priest of both Balyna (1798-1802) and Kildare (1802-1815), both Co. Kildare. Dr Corcoran was appointed Bishop of Kildare & Leighlin in March 1815, succeeding Dr Daniel Delany who died in July 1814. Fr Arthur Murphy, parish priest, Kilcock, Co. Kildare, had been appointed to succeed Dr Delany in September 1814 but declined the position. Dr Corcoran’s health declined during his episcopate and he died in Tullow on 22 February 1819, where he is buried in the parish church. (delanyarchive.ie)
