Description | Letter from Maria [nee Trant] to her husband, 2nd Baron Dunalley, written 27 September 1819 in expectation of her death, and expressing her wishes about the disposal of her jewellery, books and other property. Addressed to 'my dearest husband whom I earnestly entreat now to preserve the contents which however I fear are not very legible'. 'Though I wish him [her husband] to remember me with affection I should be happy to think he was soon to marry again, thinking a domestic life best suited to his habits & inclinations, & hoping that he may meet with another person as truly desirous to make him happy as I have been - as I may now safely say that except the one higher duty his happiness has been the study of my life for the past 17 years'. |
