Description

U271/O A file on Muintir na Tíre. This file contains miscellaneous leaflets on the purposes and aims of Muintir na Tíre, with agendas and lectures by de Róiste, etc., 1939. These mostly relate to the Cork Associate Guild, which held its meetings in the Hall of Cork Catholic Young Men's Society. Female names appear on the list of committee members, for example, the agenda notes of 10 March 1939, indicates the presence on the committee of a Miss Dillon.

In the 'aims and objects of Muintir na Tire', 13 March 1939, the question is debated relating to the organisation of men and women together or separately: 'Separate seems better for country organisation'.

A printed leaflet for a programme of events held in Galway, beginning Saturday 12 August 1939, gives over Friday 18 August as 'Women's Day', lectures are offered, for example, on 'Child Welfare' by Dr Honoria Augheny, D.P.H., 'Food Values' by Dr Deeney, Lurgan, 'The Countrywoman and her Home' by Miss Alice Ryan, Tipperary.

The file also includes correspondence from and to Liam de Róiste relating to Muintir na Tíre. The correspondents are, however, all male.
