Set in rural Ireland of the 19th century, a period when acceptance of magic and the persecution of women as witches was commonplace. The Outcasts tells of the relationship between a mysterious fiddler, Scarf Michael, and Maura a young partially crippled, woman who is mocked and derided by her friends and family. Accused of witchcraft she is forced to learn real magic to protect herself. The Film won an award at the Festival of Fantasy Films in Brussels in 1984.
