DescriptionCorrespondence of various prominent people with Charlotte Grace O'Brien, relating to, amongst other issues, work she is doing on behalf of poor female emigrants in America. The collection includes, for example:
Letter from John Redmond promising to speak on her behalf to the Directors of the `Independent', 25 March 1892

Letter from T P O'Connor, who writes thus:`I have not the smallest doubt as to the truth of the complaints you make, as to the manner in which the poor Emigrants are treated; I have, myself, had various communications on the subject which generally carry what you say. It is dreadful that these helpless girls should begin life, in a new world, under such horrible circumstances. I think it is a very good idea of yours to try and work through the Catholic clergy', 11 July 1881.

Letter from John Dillon from Kilmainham Gaol, he refers to a visit he made to a young woman in Steerage who was sick and describes his shock and astonishment at the accommodation provided for steerage passengers and his lack of knowledge at whether there was separate accommodation provided for unmarried women, 31 May 1881.

Letter from John Ireland from the Cathedral of St Paul, Minnesota, refers to the setting up of a Catholic Bureau, in [Chicago] to advice emigrants and give `special attention to poor, unprotected girls', 18 January 1884.

On another subject, the correspondence includes:
Letter from J Harrington, on the subject of the Parnell split, expressing his thanks for her subscription and his delight at learning that she is `on our side in the controversy', 16 January 1891.

Another letter from Harrington thanks her for her `generous remittance on behalf of evicted tenants', 25 January 1889.

A number of the correspondents refer to their regard for her father, for example, A M Sullivan, 29 August 1882.

Reference is also made in a number of the letters to her poetry and other literary matters, for example, in letters from:
John Boyle O'Reilly, 1 February 1887
Aubrey de Vere, 20 August 1896
Katherine Tynan, 11 March 1891
Oscar Wilde, 20 September 1875.
